Introduction To Tai Chi
This free Introduction To Tai Chi class for older adults, ages 60+, will be presented outdoors at Freedom Park by by Jill Bubel, Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator, Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Dutchess County Office For the Aging.

The class will run for one hour.  Please wear comfortable clothes with sneakers.  We will provide chairs for extra balance if needed, and will have parking close to the pavilion area.

Tai Chi originated in ancient China.  It consists of slow continuous whole-body movements, strung together in a form.  The forms follow one after the other similar to the steps of a dance.  The essential principles of tai chi are comprised of mind and body integration, fluid movements, controlled breathing and mental concentration.  The benefits of Tai Chi include improving muscle strength, coordination and flexibility thus improving balance and decreasing the risk for falls.  Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention has been recognized as an evidence-based falls reduction program by the Administration for Community Living.
