You must be able to attend all scheduled classes, there are no make ups. CPR masks are required for all classes.
ALL COURSES require passing of pre-course skills test:
1. Swim 350 yard front crawl or breaststroke, then tread water no hands for 2 minutes, then swim another 200 yard same strokes.
2. Swim 20 yard, go under and retrieve 10 pound object about 7 feet deep, return to surface and swim back.
3. Retrieve 3 diving rinds in about 5-7 feet of water.
Cancellation Policy: Applicant will receive a refund of 50% of your registration fee if cancellation request is made in writing 6 weeks or more prior to the start date. There is NO refund if the cancellation is made within the 6 weeks prior to the program date. There are NO refunds due to, but not limited to, inclement weather, illness, acts of God, failure to pass test, or closure from the Lagrange Parks and Recreation Department.
Waterfront Recertification
Lifeguarding Review classes are designed to update your skills and to renew your current Red Cross Lifeguarding certification valid for another 2 years. Current certification (or expired by 30 days) in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required to participate in the review course. Current certification is required to work as a Lifeguard. This course included CPR for the Professional.

Waterfront Crossover Course
For currently certified pool lifeguards looking to expand their certification to work lakefront. Pool certification cannot be expired. This course is a prerequisite to the Waterfront Recertification Course.

Waterfront Lifeguarding Course
The American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard with Waterfront course is a course designed to take entry level participants with no previous knowledge and turn them into professional rescuers for pool and non-surf environments. The goal is to provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively assist others if an emergency arises.
Pre-course skills test, entries, approaches, victim recognition, assisting distressed swimmers, rescuing an active drowning victim, rescuing a passive drowning victim. Performing a primary assessment and treating breathing emergencies, treating cardiac emergencies, and first aid. Rescuing a spinal victim, what to do when things don’t go as practiced, lifeguard written exam and practical skills testing.
Waterfront Module
To participate and pass the course: Participants must meet a variety of criteria to participate and pass the course successfully.
-15 years of age by the last day of the class
-Pass the pre-course skills test
-Attend all scheduled course time
-Pass written exams with 80% or better
-Pass scenario based skills test
Course A:
Pre-course skills test*: 6/5, 4-8pm
Classes: 6/7, 9am-7pm; 6/8, 9am-7pm; 6/14, 9am-7pm (Rain date 6/15)
**Mask Purchase is required for this course and is an additional $15 the mask will be delivered at the first class.
**Completion of any lifeguard course does not guarantee employment with the Town of LaGrange**
